About Me

Hi, I'm Meaghan

As a former competitive swimmer, I completed four years of collegiate eligibility and competed at the national level in both Canada and the United States. I know firsthand how much athletes navigate beyond performance—from pressure and identity to balancing sport with life outside of it. The Athlete Mental Health Initiative is my way of giving back to the athletic community by offering reduced-fee counselling and making mental health support more accessible to athletes.

Athlete Mental Health Initiative

The Athlete Mental Health Initiative was created to make counselling more accessible for athletes by offering a limited number of reduced-fee counselling spaces for athletes 17 and older.

Sessions are fully virtual, making it easier to fit counselling around training, competition, school, work, and travel. Support can focus on performance anxiety, confidence, injury recovery, burnout, motivation, identity outside of sport, relationships, life transitions, and overall mental well-being.

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, sessions may also be covered by many extended health insurance plans, depending on your individual benefits. This can make the reduced-fee initiative an even more affordable option for athletes looking to prioritize their mental health.

The athlete behind the performance

You are more than your results.

Athletes often spend years learning how to train their bodies, improve technique, tolerate discomfort, and perform under pressure. There tends to be much less intentional support around handling disappointment, uncertainty, identity, relationships, perfectionism, or the emotional demands of competitive sport.

Therapy creates space for both.

The goal isn’t necessarily to remove pressure or stop caring about performance. It’s to help you develop a relationship with sport that allows ambition and well-being to coexist.

My approach to working with athletes

My approach is collaborative, practical, and individualized. Depending on what you’re experiencing, our work may incorporate strategies from CBT, ACT, mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, and attachment-based approaches.

Sessions may involve exploring patterns and experiences more deeply, while also developing concrete strategies you can use before competition, during difficult training periods, in relationships, or when managing school and other responsibilities.

You don’t need to know exactly what you want to work on before starting therapy. We can figure that out together.
